Principal's Message

Dear Portland Families,

Next Thursday, we look forward to welcoming families for parent teacher conferences from 12:00 to 2:30pm. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to connect with teachers, reflect on student progress, and discuss goals for the remainder of the year. Families should have received an email directly from their child’s teachers with details on scheduling and availability. If you have not yet signed up, please take a moment to do so. We appreciate your partnership and look forward to seeing you.

Community Update: School Consolidation Plan

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Monday for our recent community forum on the school consolidation plan. We appreciate your time and engagement in this important conversation.

For those who were unable to attend, the forum included:
  • An overview of the proposed transition of sixth grade to Portland Middle School, presented by Principal Mike Searson
  • A discussion of the financial impact of the plan on the Town and local property taxpayers

You can review the full presentation materials below:

We have also launched a dedicated Consolidation Plan Website, which includes detailed information, supporting materials, and answers to frequently asked questions. If you have not yet explored the proposal, this is the most comprehensive place to start.
Upcoming Community Forum
Our next forum will take place:
  • Date: Tuesday, March 31, 2026
  • Time: 6:00 p.m.
  • Location: Portland Middle School Auditorium
This session will focus on the transition plan, with time reserved for questions and answers.

This proposal would directly impact student placement, school structure, and long-term financial planning for the district and community. Staying informed will help you understand how these changes may affect your family and provide input as decisions move forward.

Business Education in Action at Portland High School

Students in Portland High School’s business courses have been actively applying their learning to real-world situations this spring. In our Marketing classes, students recently began a project focused on the proposed school consolidation plan. After viewing and analyzing the superintendent’s presentation, students identified key information, developed questions, and formed their own perspectives on the proposal. They are now using those insights to create community-focused marketing materials designed to clearly communicate the plan, address potential concerns, and highlight its impact on Portland residents. This project emphasizes not only marketing skills, but also critical thinking, communication, and civic awareness.

In addition, students in Accounting are continuing to build their understanding of financial systems through hands-on practice with a unit on payroll and real-world applications. In Personal Finance, students are exploring essential life skills about investing and will be starting a unit on taxes next. These units help them prepare for informed financial decision-making beyond high school.

Across all courses, students are gaining practical skills and experiences that connect classroom learning to real-life applications, preparing them for both college and career pathways.
